RHex Robot

I designed a lightweight aluminium tandem bicycle frame for two adults. The task was to meet two constraints, the natural frequency had to be above 30Hz for comfort and the effective fatigue life should be 10 years (or approximately 1,000,000 cycles) also while minimising the weight.

After taking steps to ensure accurate analysis then performing finite element analysis, it was concluded the first design iteration was overengineered. The second iteration reduced the weight by 33% while still meeting the design constraints.
